Ten specialist rescue teams have been deployed to the site.

According to Adam Rozmus, vice-president of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW), the state-owned mining company that operates the mine, rescuers have identified the miners’ probable location, though communication with them has not yet been restored.

The rescue base has been set up around 1.5 kilometres from the site of the incident.

Rozmus said that further details would only be confirmed once the first rescue team reaches the affected area underground.

At the time of the incident, ten miners were working in the section where the emergency occurred. Eight of them were able to make their way safely back to the surface.

The incident took place on Monday, 22 December 2025, shortly after 5pm local time, at a depth of approximately 830 metres below ground.
