PAP said internet users will be able to submit questionable information about the virus to a team of fact checkers and then receive a reply.

"After a special recruitment campaign, over 300 volunteers have joined the fight against disinformation,” said PAP CEO Wojciech Surmacz.

He added: “Some have already been trained in fact-checking and using the system. Together with a team of PAP experts, they will verify information about the coronavirus sent in by internet users, information which raises doubts.”

Surmacz said the initiative was in its first phase.

The project is being carried out together with GovTech Polska, a government programme specialising in innovation and new technology.

A total of 5,000 people have tested positive for the COVID-19 disease in Poland, with 136 deaths from the coronavirus so far, officials said on Wednesday morning.
