In a letter addressed to the country's elderly, Morawiecki said: “You are in the first place in the queue for the vaccine, right behind the health service. It is the government's duty to protect those who are most affected by the epidemic”.
“Thanks to the vaccine, you will be able to return to normal life without fear of meeting your family and friends. I strongly encourage you - let's take this opportunity”, the prime minister added in the letter published in Polish tabloid daily Super Express on Monday.
“The vaccine is completely free and available to all of you. The best experts in the world have worked on it”, Morawiecki said.
Morawiecki announced last month that his government had secured vaccines for the Polish population from six leading international drugmakers.
People aged over 60, residents of nursing homes, teachers, soldiers and police are among those in the second group in line for shots under Poland’s national inoculation drive.
The group will be able to sign up for COVID-19 shots from January 15.
In the first quarter of this year, a total of 2.94 million people are expected to be vaccinated for COVID-19 throughout the country.
