Poland plans chain of local science centres for kids

Poland plans to set up special centres in 32 cities that aim to stimulate young people’s interest in science.

The centres will be equipped with interactive exhibits and young visitors will be able to conduct experiments there, public broadcaster Polish Radio's IAR news agency reported.

They will be set up in cities with up to 150,000 inhabitants.

"This is all about encouraging children's and adolescents' interest in science and convincing them that science in the future may be their path in life,” said Education Minister Przemysław Czarnek.

A total of PLN 44 million (USD 11.7m, EUR 9.7m) has been earmarked for the initiative until 2025. The first two pilot centres will be built this year, the IAR agency reported.
