Many in Ukraine are waiting for the return of the soldiers, some of whom may be held in captivity by the pro-Russian separatists, Polish Radio's IAR news agency reported on Tuesday.
It said Poland’s ambassador to Ukraine, Bartosz Cichocki, handed the loved ones of the missing soldiers EUR 15,000 worth of computer equipment and phones at a meeting in the Polish embassy in Kyiv.
Cichocki told those at the meeting that the fate of the captured Ukrainian troops must be highlighted internationally, and their names mentioned, as it could help them avoid physical and psychological repression.
The families of the men have joined forces in the Nadiya association, led by activist Jadwiga Łozynska, who has been waiting for her soldier son Andriy for seven years, the IAR news agency reported.
The activist, who is of Polish descent, described to Polish Radio how her son was allowed to phone her a few days after being taken prisoner, but has not been heard from afterwards.
Łozynska said she had been searching for him ever since.
