Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Tuesday that the increase would come into effect on July 1, providing a PLN 1,000 (EUR 230, USD 250) pay raise per month before taxes.

Speaking after a Cabinet meeting, Tusk added that the hike was "a matter of basic justice for the state to uphold the dignity of those performing such a vital social function."

He urged lawmakers to swiftly pass the measure and called on the president to promptly sign it into law.

According to the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy, nearly 190,000 workers across various social assistance centres and welfare institutions nationwide will benefit from the hike.

This includes staff at nursing homes, support centres for individuals with mental disorders, daycare facilities, family counseling centres, shelters for pregnant women and mothers with children, as well as shelters for the homeless, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
