Officers will be paying special attention to the speed at which vehicles travel during the holiday period, according to Robert Opas from the National Police Headquarters (KGP).

Traffic police will also be checking to make sure drivers are sober and that their cars are in good condition, Opas said on Friday.

He urged drivers to take extra care around "unprotected road users," such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.

In some areas, traffic will be monitored by specialised anti-speeding units in unmarked police vehicles, state news agency PAP reported.

The Safe Easter 2025 road safety campaign began on Friday and is expected to reach its peak on Monday, when many Poles will be returning home from the holiday break.

Thirty people were killed and 254 injured in 225 accidents on Polish roads during last year's four-day Easter weekend, according to police data.

The Easter weekend is usually when Poles spend time with their extended families and travel extensively to visit their relatives.
