Poland’s Armed Forces Day, celebrated on 15 August, is a national holiday, giving many Poles a day off work.

This year it falls on a Friday, creating a long weekend during peak summer vacation season, with roads - especially those leading to coastal resorts or southern mountain destinations - expected to be busier than usual.

Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, drive responsibly, and obey traffic rules.

“Speeding reduces reaction time, increases braking distance, and dramatically worsens the consequences of any collision,” police warned.

Enhanced speed enforcement across Poland

On Wednesday, Polish police announced that road traffic officers’ activities will be reinforced by a nationwide operation called “SPEED,” taking place on 14 August 2025 as part of ROADPOL, the European Traffic Police Network.

“On that day, officers across Poland, like their counterparts in other European countries, will focus on enforcing speed limits,” the police said in a statement shared via social media.

To reduce accidents caused by excessive speed and other risks, officers will conduct intensified checks using marked and unmarked patrol cars with dashcams, laser speed guns, and drones.

Special SPEED units will also be deployed to respond quickly to aggressive or dangerous driving behaviors.
