The newspaper said 43% of respondents “strongly agree” with assigning the label of genocide to Israel’s conduct in Gaza.
The findings come from research IPSOS carried out in August for the think tank More in Common Polska, according to Rzeczpospolita.
Public sentiment does not translate neatly into taking sides in the conflict, said Adam Traczyk, director of More in Common Polska, as cited by the paper.
“It does not so decisively translate into sympathizing with one or the other side of the conflict,” he said, adding that Poles focus chiefly on civilian suffering.
“The survey shows that we see violence, we can name it, and we want to give humanitarian support to the victims of this war. And that is regardless of our political sympathies,” Traczyk said.
IPSOS conducted the poll Aug. 6–13 using CATI/CAWI methods on a sample of 1,200 respondents, Rzeczpospolita reported.
