On the same day, after 5 p.m., Poland's top diplomat Radosław Sikorski announced via social media that the Poles had landed safely at Athens airport.

"I thanked our diplomats and consular services for their efficient work," he added.

Earlier, speaking to Polish Radio, Deputy Foreign Minister Ignacy Niemczycki said the citizens would be transferred to Greece after leaving detention.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed that Poles were among 171 activists “considered provocateurs” who were deported on 6 October.

According to Global Movement to Gaza Poland, the activists will be taken to Greece after their release. The Global Sumud Flotilla added that 70 activists are expected to arrive at Athens airport later on Monday, possibly including Polish participants.

“The most important thing from our perspective was maintaining contact with the flotilla participants and with Israeli authorities. This was classic crisis management,” Niemczycki said.

The diplomat added that the Polish foreign ministry had the situation under control, despite some participants initially refusing deportation, which could have led to a court case in Israel.

“We can be glad that Polish citizens are now in a safe situation. The legal basis Israel used is secondary; what matters most is the safety of our citizens,” Niemczycki said.
