Teachers in the country, including certified ones who have advanced their qualifications, earn less than 6,000 PLN (€1,407) per month - enough to buy only about one-third of a square metre of an apartment in Warsaw. This highlights the persistent affordability challenges faced by the education system.

Katarzyna Lubnauer from the Ministry of National Education, speaking on 14 October, National Education Day (commonly known as Teacher’s Day), told Polish Radio Program III that teacher salaries are set to rise by nearly 40 percent in 2026.

However, she added that the ministry will not provide additional pay for supervising students during school trips, a longstanding issue in Poland’s education system.

On Teacher’s Day, normal classes are usually suspended in Polish schools, and special ceremonies are held.

During these events, state decorations, Medals of the Commission of National Education, prizes from the Minister of Education, and honorary titles of Professor of Education are awarded to outstanding educators.

Barbara Nowacka, head of the Education Ministry, used social media to pay tribute to the teachers who had the greatest influence on her own education during this year’s celebrations.
