The scheme is open to Polish and EU citizens aged 65 and over whose average monthly income does not exceed PLN 3,410 złoty (roughly EUR 803).

It covers short-term support services of up to two weeks, including help with dressing, meal preparation, household upkeep, accessing healthcare and maintaining social contact.

The voucher will be rolled out gradually, starting in municipalities where no public care services for older people currently exist.

Under the new law, the government representative for senior policy will coordinate long-term care provision and produce annual reports on the situation of the elderly in Poland.

The bill also fulfils a milestone required under the country's EU-funded post-Covid recovery programme.
