Poland's drug seizures triple, daily reports

Poland's police have seized three times more drugs so far this year than in the whole of 2025, according to figures cited by daily newspaper Rzeczpospolita.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBŚP) confiscated 84 tonnes of drugs between January and June 2026 – up sharply from the 29 tonnes seized in all of last year, itself a record at the time.

Rzeczpospolita links the surge to growing availability of drugs on the black market, saying Poland is now among Europe's leading producers of synthetic drugs.

Investigators shut down 51 illegal labs this year, which were manufacturing substances including mephedrone and clephedrone.

Cocaine seizures have also climbed steeply.

Five tonnes were confiscated in the first half of this year alone, a stark contrast with just a few years ago, when cocaine hauls in Poland were minimal.

The paper says this fits a broader European pattern: across the EU, cocaine seizures rose from roughly 70 tonnes a decade ago to 330 tonnes last year.
