Several thousand people may have fraudulently obtained an academic degree after paying for bachelor's, master's and doctoral theses, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
The operation was headed by a 40-year-old man from Warsaw, who allegedly farmed out orders for dissertations to a network of writers.
The suspect faces up to 10 years in prison. He has not admitted to the scam, according to the IAR news agency.
