Speaking at a news conference in Zegrze near Warsaw on Thursday, Kosiniak-Kamysz said ensuring proper individual equipment for soldiers was a prerequisite for a well-functioning military.

"The army has been working for weeks on a new-look field uniform aligned with today's needs and using the best available materials," he said.

The new uniform, known as Lynx, is currently being tested and will be unveiled soon, he added.

Kosiniak-Kamysz said modernising soldiers' individual equipment is an ongoing process as new technologies emerge.

He revealed that the Polish army has recently replaced steel helmets with Kevlar ones.

Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk said the military has purchased more than 200,000 Kevlar helmets, 100,000 bulletproof vests and more than 1 million uniform and equipment items.

He told reporters that the Lynx uniform is expected to be unveiled within the next few months.

By the end of next year, Tomczyk said, the army will have Kevlar helmets "equal to about 190 percent of personnel numbers" and bulletproof vests "at about 140 percent."

He added that priorities for 2026 include optoelectronics, magnifying optics and gun sights.

As part of a broader programme to enhance individual soldier equipment, the army has increased orders for uniforms, helmets, body armor, boots and personal weapons, state news agency PAP reported.

The government has earmarked about PLN 2 billion (EUR 470 million, USD 560 million) for the programme by the end of this year, according to officials.
