Polish deputy lower-house speaker says he has coronavirus

Polish deputy lower-house Speaker Ryszard Terlecki has announced he has contracted the coronavirus and is now isolating at home.

Terlecki, who is a senior parliamentarian with the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, said in a media interview on Wednesday that he was feeling good and staying isolated to protect others.

"For now I have no symptoms, just a slight cough," he said.

A day earlier, Terlecki shared a social media post in which he said that he had tested positive for COVID-19 in a routine check conducted after a series of votes in parliament.

Poland on Wednesday reported 24,239 new coronavirus infections and 463 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 3,254,875 and fatalities to 79,624.
