The institute warns that the disease is transmitted through the bite of infected ticks.

The scientists also urged Poles to be careful during their summer walks, and check for bites, especially around the arm-pits, knees, elbows and behind ears.

According to the institute, not all ticks are infected with Lyme disease, but they are also capable of tramsittin a range of other bacteria and viruses, including tick-borne encephalitis.
