The incident occurred during an appearance on the right-wing Radio Wnet, where President Duda appeared to mock Professor Strzembosz’s remarks about the judiciary’s ability to reform itself.
The comments drew criticism from across the political spectrum, with many questioning whether the president’s behaviour was appropriate.
Reacting on social media, the head of Polish diplomacy Radosław Sikorski said: “That was not presidential behaviour.”
Professor Strzembosz, a respected figure in Poland’s post-communist legal reforms ho will turn 95 in September 2025, has been a vocal critic of judicial changes introduced by the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party for years.
As previously reported by Radio Poland, in a comment to the Polish news outlet Wirtualna Polska, Professor Strzembosz said he was not surprised by President Duda’s mocking tone, adding that while the President may personally dislike him, such behavior held little significance.
He acknowledged that his earlier criticisms had been strong, but emphasised they were expressed in a respectful and substantive manner.
