Speaking to Poland’s PAP news agency, Uznańska-Wiśniewska revealed that during Wednesday’s link-up - her first ever video call with her husband in orbit - she noticed a necklace floating weightlessly around his neck.
On it was her wedding ring, a gesture she described as a “metaphorical wink” that nearly brought her to tears.
“He boarded the capsule alone on June 25, but he took a part of each of us with him,” she told an audience of over 300 schoolchildren gathered in Łódź’s EC1 Science Centre for a physics lesson streamed from space.
Uznańska-Wiśniewska praised her husband’s passion for inspiring young people and encouraged students to set ambitious goals, adding that space offers enormous opportunities for Poland’s science, economy and future generations.
