The education ministry said some schools temporarily shifted to remote learning, while others were expected to remain closed on Tuesday as severe weather conditions persisted.
Under Polish regulations, school principals may suspend classes if outdoor temperatures fall to at least minus 15°C for two consecutive days, measured at 9 p.m. the previous evening, or if classroom temperatures do not rise above 18°C.
The closures affected schools in northern, central, eastern and western parts of the country.
Education ministry spokeswoman Ewelina Gorczyca said at a news conference that the situation was "dynamic," with the number of school closures changing as weather conditions evolved.
