The Polish team won Sunday’s game in the north-eastern Spanish city of Zaragoza 80-69.

It was the national squad’s first win against Spain since 1972.

The Poles’ next game in the qualifiers is not until November 27, when they take on Romania, playing away.

The Polish campaign to secure a place at EuroBasket 2021 got off to an unpromising start with a defeat to Israel. Playing at home in the southern Polish city of Gliwice on Thursday, the Poles were beaten 71:75.

The EuroBasket tournament takes place next September. Games in the group stage will be held in Germany, the Czech Republic, Georgia and Italy.

The knock-out phase will be played in the German capital, Berlin.
