Nineteen-year-old Świątek was on Sunday beaten 4-6, 2-6 by Belarusian player Victoria Azarenka.

Meanwhile, in the same stage of the Grand Slam tournament, Poland’s Magda Linette on Friday lost 3-6, 2-6 to Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit.

It was the first time both Poles reached the third round of the tournament in New York’s Flushing Meadows.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the US Open is being played without fans attending.
