Meanwhile, her coach Piotr Sierzputowski was named coach of the year by a panel of experts.

Świątek in October won the French Open, claiming her maiden Grand Slam title and becoming the first Pole to lift a Grand Slam singles trophy.

The 19-year-old Pole on Wednesday entered the third round of the women’s singles competition at the Australian Open Grand Slam tennis tournament in Melbourne.

A special lifetime sporting achievement award went posthumously to Polish cycling icon Ryszard Szurkowski, who died at the age of 75 on February 1.

The Polish Radio Sports Awards were handed out for the fourth time.

Soccer player Robert Lewandowski was last month named as Polish athlete of the year for 2020 in an annual poll held by sports newspaper Przegląd Sportowy and private television broadcaster Polsat.
