The 19-year-old Pole, ranked world No. 18 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), won the first set 6-2 and was up 3-0 in the second when the American player retired due to injury during their quarterfinal match on Thursday.

The rising Polish tennis star will now face Switzerland's Jil Teichmann for a place in the final at the post-Australian Open tournament in Adelaide.

Earlier in the tournament, the Polish player defeated American Madison Brengle and Australian Maddison Inglis.

Świątek reached the fourth round of the women’s singles at this year's Australian Open, where she lost to Romania's Simona Halep.

The Polish teenager in October won the French Open, claiming her maiden Grand Slam title and becoming the first Pole to lift a Grand Slam singles trophy.
