The Poles, who are reigning world champions, on Tuesday picked up their seventh straight win at the EuroVolley championships, defeating Olympic silver medal winners Russia 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the continental tournament in the Baltic city of Gdańsk.

Slovenia, who finished runners-up at the 2019 EuroVolley tournament, beat the Czech Republic 3-0 in their quarterfinal clash in Ostrava a day later.

The Polish team beat Portugal, Serbia, Greece, Ukraine, Belgium and Finland in its previous games at the Men's European Volleyball Championship.

Poland is jointly hosting the 2021 EuroVolley championships, which are also being held in the Czech Republic, Estonia and Finland from September 1 to 19.

The Polish team, under Belgian coach Vital Heynen, reached the quarterfinals of the volleyball tournament at this summer's Tokyo Olympics, where it was knocked out by eventual gold medal winners France.
