The 20-year-old Pole, ranked world No. 6 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), saw off the Russian-born Kazakh player 6-4, 6-4 in their second-round encounter on Wednesday.

Świątek, who is the top seed in the tournament, had a bye in the first round.

Up next for the rising Polish tennis star in Ostrava is Kazakhstan's world No. 16 Elena Rybakina, who defeated another Pole, Magda Linette, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 in the second round on Thursday.

Świątek earlier this month reached the round of 16 of the women’s singles at the US Open, where she lost to Olympic champion Belinda Bencic of Switzerland.

Świątek last year won the French Open, claiming her maiden Grand Slam title and becoming the first Pole to lift a Grand Slam singles trophy.
