Swimming: Two medals for Poland in Budapest

Poland won two medals, a silver and a bronze, at the world swimming championships in Budapest on Saturday.

Poland’s Katarzyna Wasick took the silver in the women’s 50m freestyle on the last day of competition in the Hungarian capital, finishing narrowly behind Sarah Sjöström of Sweden.

Sjöström won with a time of 23.98 seconds, while Wasick touched in at 24.18, ahead of Australia's Meg Harris and Erika Brown of the United States, who tied for the bronze in 24.38.

Earlier in the day, Poland's Ksawery Masiuk claimed the bronze in the men’s 50 metres backstroke.

The 17-year-old touched in at 24.49 seconds to finish third behind Americans Justin Ress and Hunter Armstrong.

The Budapest swimming competition was held from June 18 to 25 as part of the 19th FINA World Aquatics Championships.

Poland in December won two medals, a gold and a bronze, at the 2021 World Short-Course Swimming Championships in Abu Dhabi.

Team Poland in November won eight medals, two gold, two silver and four bronze, at the 2021 European Short-Course Swimming Championships in Kazan, Russia.
