Athletics: Poland’s Zdziebło wins world silver in 35 km race walk

Poland’s Katarzyna Zdziebło took the silver in the women’s 35 km race walk at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene on Friday to bag her second and her country’s fourth medal of the global track-and-field event in the US state of Oregon.

The Pole crossed the finish line in 2:40.03, a new national record, 47 seconds behind the winner, Peru’s Kimberly Garcia Leon, news outlets reported.

China’s Shijie Qieyang claimed the bronze, finishing 34 seconds behind Zdziebło.

Last Friday, Zdziebło won the silver in the women's 20 km in Oregon, likewise finishing behind the Peruvian and ahead of the Chinese.

Polish athletes have so far earned one gold and three silver medals at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, which run in the United States until Sunday.
