Czesław Cybulski, who was the trainer of such champion hammer throwers as Anita Włodarczyk and Paweł Fajdek, has passed away in Poznań at the age of 87.

The Polish Athletic Association made the announcement on Twitter:

Cybulski achieved extraordinary success with the athletes he trained: Anita Włodarczyk is a three-time olympic champion and four-time world champion; Szymon Żiółkowski won gold at the 2000 Sydney olympics and 2001 world championships; Kamila Skolimowska was the youngest ever hammer-throwing olympic champion winning gold in Sydney before her untimely death in 2009 and Paweł Fajdek is a five-time world champion.

Cybulski was born in 1935 in Mosina near Poznań. After completing a sports school in Gdańsk he worked as a PE teacher, going on to graduate from the Warsaw University of Physical Education (AWF) and obtaining a doctorate from the Poznań Academy of Physical Education.

He began his career training sprinters, but later specialised in hammer throwing.
