Poland beat Canada at women’s world volleyball championships

Poland beat Canada 3-2 for their fifth win at the 2022 Volleyball Women’s World Championships on home soil in the central city of Łódź on Friday, increasing their chances of advancing to the tournament's quarterfinals.

The Poles, who are back on the world stage after an absence of 12 years, defeated Croatia 3-1 in their opening match of the tournament and followed up with a 3-0 victory over Thailand and a 3-0 win against South Korea.

The Polish team, managed by Italian coach Stefano Lavarini, then suffered two defeats in the second round of the tournament, losing 2-3 to Turkey and 0-3 to Serbia.

The Poles, who beat the United States 3-0 in their sixth match at the tournament, will now take on Germany in their last group-stage game on Saturday night.

The 2022 Volleyball Women’s World Championships, contested by 24 teams and held by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), the world governing body for the sport, are being jointly hosted by Poland and the Netherlands.

The tournament runs until October 15.
