At least 220 Ukrainian athletes and coaches have died in the war while 40 nations, including Poland, had given Ukrainian athletes housing and training assistance during the last 12 months.

The war in Ukraine has affected almost every aspect of life in Europe, including sports. After Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, many sports and charity events were organized in Poland, the proceeds of which were used to help Ukrainians.
