Poland set to play Slovenia in EuroVolley semifinals

Poland are set to face off against Slovenia in the semifinals of the Men's European Volleyball Championship in Rome on Thursday.

The Poles, who are one of the world's strongest teams, on Tuesday picked up their seventh straight win at the EuroVolley championshipsdefeating Serbia 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the continental tournament in the southern Italian city of Bari.

Slovenia, who finished runners-up at the 2019 and 2021 EuroVolley tournaments, beat Ukraine 3-1 in their quarterfinal clash in Varna, Bulgaria a day earlier.

The Polish team, managed by Serbian coach Nikola Grbić, beat the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, North Macedonia. DenmarkMontenegro and Belgium in its previous games at the Men's European Volleyball Championship.

The 2023 Men's EuroVolley championships are being held in North Macedonia, Italy, Bulgaria and Israel until Saturday.

Poland are looking to win their second European title after being crowned champions in 2009.

The Poles won the bronze at the 2021 EuroVolley tournament after a semifinal loss to Slovenia.

Poland won world championship titles in 2014 and 2018 and finished runners-up last year.

Earlier this year, Grbić's men won the Volleyball Nations League.
