Officially known as the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, it is 4,270 km long and passes through 25 national forests and seven national parks.

The trail ranges in elevation from 34 metres above sea level near the Bridge of the Gods on the Oregon-Washington border to over 4,000 metres at Forester Pass in the Sierra Nevada.

Effler has received the go-ahead from the Pacific Crest Trail Association, a step required for those undertaking the exploit.

Born in Pruszków near Warsaw, Effler, now in his early 30s, currently resides in Iceland, working in a hotel and as a web designer.

Several years ago, he completed a solo trekking expedition to Peru that included the Colca Canyon and the Cordillera Blanca mountain range.

During his solo trek along the Pacific Crest Trail, Effler will be carrying a rucksack with 17 kg of equipment.

His outfit features the logo of Szerpowie nadziei (Sherpas of Hope), a Polish charity that organizes mountain trips for physically disabled young people.

In 2016, two Poles, Grzegorz Ozimiński and Maciej Stromczyński, completed the Pacific Crest Trail in 163 days.
