Stoch, a triple Olympic champion, finished behind Germany’s Stephan Leyhe, the winner, and Norway’s Marius Lindvik.

Poland’s Dawid Kubacki, who has delighted fans recently with his sparkling form, came a distant 15th. His countryman Jakub Wolny finished 23rd.

Kubacki last month became the third Polish ski jumper to claim the overall Four Hills Tournament title after soaring to victory in the final stage of the prestigious annual series in Bischofshofen, Austria.

In Saturday’s competition in Willingen, Polish jumpers Piotr Żyła, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Klemens Murańka and Andrzej Stękała did not make it through to the second round.
