UPDATE: Poland’s Świątek eases into French Open final

Rising Polish tennis star Iga Świątek has eased past Argentina's Nadia Podoroska to reach the final of the women's singles at the French Open Grand Slam tournament in Paris for the first time in her career.

The unseeded Pole overpowered the Argentine qualifier 6-2, 6-1 in their semifinal clash in Paris on Thursday.

The victory marked a new career milestone for the Polish 19-year-old, who will now face fourth-seeded American Sofia Kenin in the championship match.

Kenin, world No. 6, beat the Czech Republic's Petra Kvitova 6-4, 7-5 in the other women's singles semifinal in the French capital.

Świątek, a former junior Wimbledon champion, is currently ranked world No. 54 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).

In the midst of her winning streak at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris, Świątek on Wednesday booked her place in the semifinals of the women’s doubles together with Nicole Melichar of the United States.
