Legia, Poland’s most successful football club, made some major reinforcements during the summer, state news agency PAP reported.

The Warsaw club signed Spaniard Marc Gual from Jagiellonia Białystok, who was Ekstraklasa’s top goalscorer last season, defender Radovan Pankov, who won the 2015 U20s World Cup with Serbia, and Polish international full-back Patryk Kun, among others.

Legia showed promising form in pre-season, beating the likes of Salzburg FC and Karabach Agdam in friendlies, as well as winning the 2023 Polish Super Cup, after a victory over Raków last Saturday.

Meanwhile, last season’s Europa Conference League quarterfinalists Lech Poznań have also added to their squad, signing Iranian international striker Ali Gholizadeh, Swedish defender Elias Andersson and Bosnian international midfielder Dino Hotic, the PAP news agency reported.

The 2023 Polish champions Raków Częstochowa are also expected to compete for the title again, despite losing coach Marek Papszun, who has been succeeded by his assistant Dawid Szwarga.

Raków has also acquired established Ekstraklasa players, such as John Yeboah from Śląsk Wrocław, Łukasz Zwoliński from Lechia Gdańsk and Maxime Dominguez from Miedź Legnica, the PAP news agency reported.

Poland’s defending champions have already booked their place in the second round of Champions League qualifiers, after defeating Flora Tallinn of Estonia in round one.

The new season of Poland’s top-flight football kicks off on Friday night, with Warta Poznań taking on Pogoń Szczecin and Legia Warsaw hosting newcomers ŁKS, broadcaster TVP Sport reported.
