The Polish world No. 1 on Thursday defeated Zheng Qinwen of China 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the third round of the women’s singles.

The top-seeded Polish player will now face reigning Wimbledon champion Markéta Vondroušová of the Czech Republic for a place in the semifinals.

The Western & Southern Open tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio, also known as the Cincinnati Open or Cincinnati Masters, is for many top tennis players the final warm-up before the US Open Grand Slam event, which begins on August 28.

Świątek last month defeated Germany's Laura Siegemund 6-0, 6-1 in the final of the Poland Open tournament on home soil in Warsaw, claiming her 15th career singles title.

The 22-year-old, coached by countryman Tomasz Wiktorowski, has topped the world rankings in women's tennis since April 4, 2022.
