The Polish tennis ace last week reached the semifinals of the Western & Southern Open tournament in the US city of Cincinnati, where she was beaten on Saturday by American teenager Coco Gauff 6-7, 6-3, 4-6.

The Western & Southern Open hard-court tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio, also known as the Cincinnati Open or Cincinnati Masters, was for many top tennis players the final warm-up before the US Open Grand Slam event, which begins on August 28.

Świątek last month defeated Germany's Laura Siegemund 6-0, 6-1 in the final of the Poland Open tournament on home soil in Warsaw, claiming her 15th career singles title.

The 22-year-old, coached by countryman Tomasz Wiktorowski, has topped the WTA world rankings since April 4, 2022.

The Polish player now leads the world rankings with 9,955 points, ahead of Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka with 8,746 points, and American Jessica Pegula with 5,945 points.

The second-highest ranked Polish female player, Magda Linette, moved down one spot to No. 24 in the latest WTA rankings.

Meanwhile, countrywoman Magdalena Fręch moved up from 77th to 75th place in the new world rankings, which were released on Monday.
