Poland's Iga Świątek gave her team an early advantage in the United Cup final against Germany, defeating Angelique Kerber in straight sets on Sunday. In just 70 minutes, 22-year-old Świątek defeated Kerber 6-3, 6-0, extending her winning streak to 16 matches. Świątek’s victory meant Poland needed just one more win from the remaining men's singles or mixed doubles match to claim the United Cup, the Daily Sports website reported.

Then the men took to the court. During the match between Hubert Hurkacz and Alexander Zverev, the Polish player had a strong start and was leading. However, the match proved to be challenging for Hurkacz as Zverev fought back, and demonstrated exceptional resilience, bouncing back to save two match points and secure a hard-fought victory over Poland's Hurkacz. With a score of 6-7(3), 7-6(6), and 6-4, Zverev has forced a deciding mixed doubles match in the championship clash against Poland on Sunday, the United Cup official website reported.

Then Zverev playing his “sixth match in three days, including a 2.20 a.m. local time finish on Sunday in Germany’s marathon semifinal victory over Australia, he partnered with Laura Siegemund to win the mixed doubles 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 in a super tiebreaker against Iga Świątek and Hurkacz”, the ATP tour website reported.

Despite the defeat of the Polish team, the United Cup final is the greatest team achievement in the history of Polish tennis.
