The Polish goal machine, who plays for Barcelona and also captains Poland’s national squad, opened the scoring in the 45th minute of the game with a long-range strike at Balaídos Stadium in Vigo, northwestern Spain.

Celta equalized in the 47th, but Lewandowski ensured a late victory for Barcelona after he converted a penalty seven minutes into extra time. The strike marked his 50th goal for Barcelona.

The dramatic 2-1 win narrowed Barcelona's gap to Real Madrid at the top of the league standings, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The 35-year-old Pole has scored 12 goals in the Spanish top flight this season, four less than Real Madrid's English midfielder Jude Bellingham, who leads the table among the division's top scorers.

Lewandowski in November took home the Spanish premier league's Pichichi top scorer award for the 2022/2023 season.

The Polish marksman in June ended his first season as a Barcelona player by winning the Spanish top flight's golden boot.

He has now scored 50 goals for Barça in all competitions.

Lewandowski has previously won seven top scorer awards in the German Bundesliga, where he played for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

The Polish marksman in October 2022 won the Gerd Müller Trophy for the best striker of the 2021/2022 season at the France Football Ballon d'Or Awards in Paris.
