The 34-year-old Polish hiker, who had been missing in the Julian Alps since he was last seen on Friday morning, was found deceased on Saturday during a search operation.

An intensive rescue mission was launched immediately after the man was reported missing, but poor weather conditions significantly hindered the efforts, according to STA.

Finally, a brief improvement in the weather on Saturday allowed a police helicopter crew in the evening to locate and recover the body in the area of Mount Triglav, Slovenia’s highest peak, at 2,864 meters above sea level.

Preliminary findings suggest the Polish tourist fell from a trail while descending from Triglav, police in Kranj, northern Slovenia, reported.

Authorities are still working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
