The most serious Level 3 alerts are in effect for parts of southern regions including Opole, Silesia and Lesser Poland due to expected intense thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

Poland’s Met Office (IMGW) has warned that rainfall totals in some of the southern areas could reach up to 120 litres per square meter.

The storms may be accompanied by wind gusts reaching 80 km/h and localised hail, which could lead to power outages and disruptions, officials have said.

The heaviest downpours are expected on Sunday afternoon and into the early hours of Monday.

In response to the rapidly developing weather situation, the interior minister has convened a crisis management team.

A low Level 1 warning for thunderstorms has also been issued for eastern Poland. As the low-pressure system tracks northward, the most intense weather activity is expected to shift in that direction.

On Sunday, rain is forecast nationwide with lighter showers in the west — where temperatures will hover between 21°C and 24°C.

Warmer temperatures are forecast for the east, ranging from 26°C to 27°C.

By Monday, the heaviest rainfall will concentrate across central and northern regions of the country.
