Marczyk, driving a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 with co-driver Szymon Gospodarczyk, secured the crown after finishing third in the season-ending Rally Croatia, the eighth round of the championship.
Poland's Abramowski takes ERC3 title
In the ERC3 category, the second tier of the European Rally Championship, fellow Pole Tymoteusz Abramowski won the title behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta Rally3.
The 19-year-old also claimed the prestigious M-Sport Fiesta Rally3 Trophy this year, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Fourth Polish driver to claim continental crown
“I’m happy, I don’t know what to say—there are so many emotions,” said Marczyk.
“When I was 15, I started in karting and later decided to switch to rallying," he added. "Only three Polish drivers before me have been European champions—Sobiesław Zasada, Krzysztof Hołowczyc and Kajetan Kajetanowicz. To be among them is something special.”
Kajetanowicz won three straight European titles from 2015 to 2017, while Hołowczyc triumphed in 1997 with co-driver Maciej Wisławski.
Zasada, a pioneer of Polish rallying, also won the continental crown.
Marczyk is the first Pole to win the championship since Kajetanowicz’s three-year run.
In June, Marczyk finished runner-up in the 81st annual Rally Poland, which doubled as the fourth round of the European Rally Championship series.
