Italian golfer among several killed in fire at Swiss ski resort bar

Emanuele Galeppini, the young Italian golfer who was among those killed in a fire at Le Constellation, a bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana, was confirmed dead by the Italian Golf Federation on social media following an explosion in the early hours of New Year’s Eve, 1 January 2026.

The federation wrote that Galeppini “carried with him passion and true values” and added that their thoughts are with his family and all who loved him, noting that he “will remain forever in our hearts.”

Galeppini was 17 years old. He was born in Genoa, in the Liguria region of northwestern Italy, but lived in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He was among the first victims of the tragedy to be identified.

According to Eurosport, shortly before the incident, the teenager spoke on the phone with his parents.

Early reports indicate that most of those who died were young adults or teenagers.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the incident and to identify the causalities.
