Speaking at Friday’s opening ceremony, Sports Minister Jakub Rutnicki said the event showcased Poland’s organizational capabilities.
“These championships are also meant to show that we are capable of organizing events at the highest global level,” Rutnicki told reporters.
“I would like this to be another step toward hosting the most important sporting event in Poland’s history—the Olympic Games,” he added.
The minister took part in the official opening ceremony at Arena Toruń.
He said the government plans to invest in new indoor athletics training facilities across the country, adding that Poland aims to strengthen its athletics programme and expressing hope that the global event in Toruń would "generate additional momentum."
The championships ran from Friday to Sunday, with Poland represented by 32 athletes who won four medals, including one gold.
Poland's Toruń previously hosted the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2021.
