A CD featuring a selection of songs by Polish composers Stanisław Moniuszko (1819-1872) and Mieczysław Karłowicz (1876-1909) recorded by Polish tenor Piotr Beczała has received the Diapason d’Or (Golden Tuning Fork) award from reviewers of the French music magazine Diapason.

The CD was produced last year by the National Chopin Institute in collaboration with the Polish National Opera. Beczała is accompanied in the recording by Austrian pianist Helmut Deutsch.

Beczała, 53, is among the world’s most sought-after tenors. Last month he sang the part of Jontek in Moniuszko’s Halka at the National Opera in Warsaw.

He recently returned to Poland from Chicago with his wife and they are undergoing quarantine in their house in the mountains.
