He received the nomination for his production of Austerlitz, an adaptation of the novel of the same title by German writer Georg Sebald. The work has been described as an epic meditation on the trauma of the Holocaust. Lupa’s Austerlitz was staged at the Lithuanian Youth Theatre.
The Polish director, 77, is one of the most acclaimed in Europe.
He has already once received the Lithuanian Golden Cross of the Stage. He was given the honour in 2016 for his production of Heroes’ Square by Austrian writer Thomas Bernhard at the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre.
