The book, entitled Warszawaupproret 1944 (1944 Warsaw Uprising), was written in Swedish by Polish historian Artur Szulc.

It was published by Historiska Media, a local publisher that specializes in high quality books on history and cultural history, non-fiction as well as fiction.

In its publicity materials, Historiska Media says that “Szulc describes the uprising as the greatest urban insurgency of World War II and a symbol of Polish heroism, sacrifice and suffering.”

The book includes personal accounts of insurgents and witnesses of the 63 days of fighting in the Nazi German-occupied Polish capital.

Born in Szczecin, northwestern Poland, Szulc has lived in Sweden for over three decades. His output includes a popular history of Poland and I skuggan av Auschwitz (In the Shadow of Auschwitz). He also publishes extensively on Polish history in Swedish periodicals.

Two years ago, he received the Bene Merito award from the Polish foreign ministry for his activities aimed at enhancing Poland’s prestige in Sweden.
