Gov't cash for libraries, bookstores in Poland

More than 100 small libraries and bookstores around Poland have received funds from the country's culture ministry under a flagship programme that seeks to boost readership among the public.

The initiative is intended to help those small cultural institutions stay afloat in the harsh times of the pandemic, while recognising their role in encouraging people to read more books.

Libraries across the country, both public and private, have been granted a total of PLN 43 million (EUR 9.2 million, USD 10.3 million) through the National Reading Development Programme to help them improve their product range and support investment in infrastructure.
