New interactive sculpture in Warsaw’s city centre

A large, blue, egg-shaped sculpture by Polish artist Joanna Rajkowska was placed in the centre of Warsaw, to raise awareness about animal protection.

The installation weighs over 2 tonnes, and it vibrates and emits sound of a hatching song thrush .

“The egg is a sensitivity test for the residents of Warsaw,” Rajkowska said, adding that “a baby bird is a sign of where we are in our relation with other species.”

She also said she aimed to raise awareness about the way humans treat other beings.

Rajkowska has previously showcased a similar sculpture in London’s Regents Park.

She is also the author behind Warsaw’s iconic fake palm tree at the Charle de Gaulle roundabout.
